Latin goes Square Kufic

Science Museum's New Brand Identity

Square Kufic Script in Arabic - "Allah"

I was utterly surprised when I saw the Science Museum's new Brand plastered across town adorned in cheap stock photos. It looked a lot like the Arabic identities you see in the Middle East - loyal to their calligraphic and geometric roots.

Finding latin counterparts to arabic type (vice versa) continues to be huge design issue in the Middle East - could this possibly be one way of solving it? Giving typefaces to foreign design agencies and studios to create their sister font?

C'est Vraiment Genial

Julien Breton takes Arabic calligraphy to the next level using a few flash lights. . None of the photos are retouched by photoshop. His method is simple, keeps the camera on long exposure and choreographs his way through each letter by spending 30 seconds or more on each character before moving on to the next. Fou!!
