Crowd Sourcing

M.I.T students came together to form this online project called : IdeasScale

The concept behind this a collective insight on an Idea rather than an individualistic one. How does it work? Well you submit your idea, people from across the globe add to it, criticize it and potentially make it grow into super idea. From there businesses can identify where to improve and ideas that can help them make that change..

Basically you have this living specimen that modifies your idea on a daily basis. This is a blessing for marketers everywhere!!

Khatt : Arabic Typography

Above is the artwork of a budding graphic designer and calligrapher, Farah Behbehani who won a Khatt competition and got her design printed as wall vinyls!

Many have butchered Arabic type {myself included}, Arabic typography is one of the most beautiful and complicated type faces to work with. For some stellar examples click here.

Wottsit called?

Leave it to Urban Decay to call their eye shadow, Asphyxia.

Albino Dolphin!

For any frequenters of Harmony, this was only seen on .. 'toys'. A Pink mother flipping dolphin!
Hopefully when people start spear hunting the poor thing it will swim towards a whirlpool and resurface as pink sushi. YAY!

Rub my Hand

When I was younger I used to believe that God and Satan were like Mr. Willy-Wonka and Mr. Slugworth. That they were really working together to see who was honest and I thought that if I told anyone, and exposed God's plan, that I would be blamed for blasphemy.

When I was younger, I stole my classmate's swissrolls and ate them as I sat on them. True Story.

Nakba: The Return of the Soul

This is Jane Frere's Installation, Nakba.

The project was devised as a means of exploring the historic events of 1948 when 750,000 Palestinians were driven into exile to become the longest suffering refugee population, whose numbers have grown to 4.5 million. The installation, Return of the Soul, was conceived as a means to extend the artist’s work to involve Palestinians themselves in the process of creating the components of a sculpture and multi-media artwork that addresses displacement, and offers an expression of their collective sense of injustice and loss, as well as asserting their right to a national heritage.

Suspended wax figures
Over seven thousand wire, paper, wax figures are suspended in the air on a raked angle across the space. Spectators are able to walk around the installation and at a certain point to pass underneath.

Hanging testimonies
Three-meter long scrolls of paper bearing the imprint of personal testimonies relating to the moment of exile are suspended vertically between handing Perspex strips, creating a “forest” of words. The testimonies are installed in a separate space complementing the figures and bear witness to the identities representing those forced to flee from their homeland in 1948.

Sound Installation
Fragmented layered voices, edited from a series of filmed interviews conducted by the artist, are played in the space surrounding the hanging testimonies.

Rebranding Abu Ghuraib

This is a designer's nightmarish challenge for a brief. Anyone up for it?

YEP! ITS REAL

I still don't think I'm completely sold. Despite the fact that its on National Geographic and there's a video to go with it. It just looks like a super photo shopped and CGI made fish.

Last post about Threadless. I was reading about the prizes you get when you have your t-shirt printed and came across this fine piece of print:

If your design has been chosen for print; Choose a $3,000 scholarship as a form of payment towards your college fees. Open to everyone regardless of what your studying.

This is what we really need, and what a super way to encourage all the people who are struggling with loans. Brilliant.

Suprisingly Yemeni

The most alien looking tropical desert (who knew those things existed) on the planet is in Yemen. P A U S E . Socotra Island is located just off the coast of Yemen and is considered of the most endangered ecological sites in the world.

This looks like something straight out of Miyazaki's animated features.

Hazy Cyan Pink with a touch of Orange.

A multi-lingual colour naming Experiment, in English, Greek, Spanish and German is being conducted by the Colour Imaging Research Group at the University of Arts. It is part of an MSc research project on colour naming and colour categorisation within different cultures, which aims to develop an online colour-naming model based on "natural" languages.

NUKE THEM ALL with pills?!

Found this on deera-chat.com :

Kuwait Purchases Nearly 6 Million Doses of Emergency Nuclear Radiation Drugs

Nukepills.com today announced the sale of 180,000 units (5.4 million doses) of ThyroShield(TM) Potassium Iodide to the Kuwait Ministry of Health. Worth approximately $1.4 million, the sale was brokered by Nukepills.com and signifies Kuwait’s proactive course in protecting its citizens during a nuclear radiation emergency.

I've been saying this for years ever since I went camping in Kuwait's Desert nearly 7 years ago now! During the 1990-1991 Gulf War, a lot of people who lived close to the borders, (Jahra and Fahaheel especially) died of radiation poisoning and cancer.

I hate sketchbooks

Alright, I didn't exactly stray away from paper, but I think plates are the way to go. Most of my sketches are now on paper plates.

The Opposite of Lamp

Genius marketing ploy. These guys sent Perez Hilton a valentine's day card via youtube with links to their Portfolio. Perez gets a total of 7 million users clicking on his site daily. Great exposure at no cost. As for the video.. well it's a video! I like their Lamps.

So I started this morning with that note taking up half of my screen. After my initial anger subsided, I realized that we had Hot Chip playing in the background. Seriously it's just a student video nothing to be bothered by ... unless you want the same team to work on your next video :D Hello! I'm Inji *paws screen*

HAH!

Genius.

Alcatraz to Croatia

Meet Lars Erik Bratveit. By day a super-hero I.T vigilante that whips coaxial cables into shape (wow you so know I don't know a thing about computers etc) and by night and in his spare time he traverses the planet and does a lot of photography. Check out his website here.

UBTIS! OI!

So in lieu of hanging out and networking, Tree Forest came across this super flyer promoting Gym Box. What really got me was the Esctasy pills with G & B's on the front and the fab colour system that highlight the classes where you can improve on your Chav Fighting, Boob aerobics and Bitch Boxing.
